PhD-project title: Dynamic Resource-Aware Decomposition of Geoprocessing Services Based on Declarative Request Languages

Current trends in distributed geoprocessing specify the use of composite web services. However, the implementations do not address concerns such as the dynamic and optimized composition of services for data intensive, computationally expensive geoprocessing problems. Efforts directed at dealing with this involve modeling of the process (as a query) separately from service composition itself. The problem addressed in this research is the investigation of mechanisms to efficiently distribute a web service request, which is a declarative raster data processing query, across several nodes as sub-requests; managing the execution of those sub-requests and aggregating their results. The query is based on Web Coverage Processing Service language. In this project, a service will be decomposed into component web services (which are then orchestrated) based on the semantics of its query request, service cost and service query optimization techniques.
