PhD project title: Satellite based measurements and model calculation for studying effects of pollution

Pollution events have a great influence on both the ocean and the atmosphere and its interaction. During theses pollution events tropospheric ozone (O3) is photochemical produced. Up to now more than ten years data of the satellite based instrument SCIAMACHY (Scanning Imaging Absorption Spectrometer for Atmospheric CHartographY) onboard ENVISAT are available.

To determine tropospheric O3, the limb-nadir matching technique will be used. The interpretation of pollution events will be realized by the combination with the MACC model data output. Within this PhD project the analysis of trends, the dependence of seasonality as well as the determination of sources and sinks will be carried out. Error analysis will also be discussed.
