First ESSReS retreat after about one year
On August 21, 2009, all ESSReS PhDs and their supervisors participated in an one-day retreat where the status of the individual research projects and the research school programm were internally evaluated and discussed.
In 7 oral and 15 poster presentations the PhD students gave an overview about their projects with enthusiasm and great success (see programme). Intensive discussions on the different topics, suggestions for future work and the initiation of closer collaborations between different projects contributed to an overall very positive resumé of the retreat.
In parallel meetings of the PhD Student Assembly and the Supervisor Assembly in the later afternoon the research school programme of the first year has been reviewed and suggestions and strategic planning for the next two years were made. Especially wishes and suggestions for future courses by the PhDs themselves were taken into consideration. The results were summerized in the meeting of the Academic Council before a common dinner concluded the day in a relaxed atmosphere. Here, the best oral and poster presentation of the retreat were awarded with a small prize, considering the three different criteria: scientific content, presentation style and speakers performance.
